Balancer (BAL) is a key cryptocurrency for the Balancer protocol, a DeFi platform enabling users to swap, create, and manage pools of ERC-20 tokens on the Ethereum blockchain. ERC-20 tokens are versatile, operating on any Ethereum-based platform. As an automated market maker (AMM), Balancer allows token trading without a centralized intermediary or order book, using smart contracts. Liquidity providers earn BAL tokens by contributing to these self-balancing token portfolios with customizable weights and fees. BAL tokens enable governance participation, allowing holders to influence protocol development. The total BAL supply is capped at 100 million, with 25 million allocated to the founding team, core developers, advisors, and investors.
