REN (Ren)

Ren (REN) is a cryptocurrency that facilitates a protocol named RenVM, designed for transferring tokens between different blockchains. RenVM, a network of virtual machines, locks tokens on one blockchain and mints equivalent tokens on another. For instance, RenVM can lock bitcoins and mint renBTC, ERC-20 tokens representing bitcoins on the Ethereum blockchain. This enables users to engage with Ethereum-based decentralized finance (DeFi) applications without converting their bitcoins into ether. REN tokens serve as a bond for nodes operating the RenVM, known as Darknodes, which earn fees for enabling cross-chain transactions and maintaining the protocol's security and privacy. Ren's objective is to foster interoperability and liquidity across diverse blockchains in a decentralized, trustless manner.
