AEX (AEX Index)

The AEX index, formally the Amsterdam Exchange Index (ticker: AEX), is the flagship free-float market-capitalization-weighted benchmark of Euronext Amsterdam in the Netherlands, tracking the exchange’s most-traded Dutch companies across sectors such as financials, consumer staples, technology, energy and healthcare. It currently comprises the 25 largest and most liquid Dutch listings, but - following a methodology change announced on 11 March 2025 - the basket will expand to the top 30 companies after the close of trading on 19 September 2025, a move designed to boost diversification and better reflect the breadth of the Dutch market. Because of its broad sector coverage and weighting approach, the AEX is widely regarded as the primary barometer of Dutch equity performance and a reliable proxy for economic and market trends in the Netherlands.
