RON (Romanian Leu)
Romania's official currency, the RON or Romanian new leu (meaning "lion" in Romanian), is used in Eastern Europe. One leu is divided into 100 bani (which also means "money" or "coin" in Romanian). Its history dates back to 1867 when it was first introduced as a silver coin. Over the years, the leu has seen several changes, including revaluation in 2005, and is now a free-floating currency with its exchange rate governed by market forces.
